“The world of self-portraiture helped me envision myself in completely new ways, incorporating myth and fairy-tale aesthetics and a chance to assert my belonging in this space. As a full-time lawyer, it is absolutely exhilarating and refreshing to do something completely different in my free time, delving into inspirations and seeing where they lead me. In these images I take a Renaissance twist on a female version of the Sun god Apollo, or Helios, rising into the skies with a golden glow of a halo. I present myself as the sovereign queen of Camelot, with a blade alluding to the Excalibur that bears the right to rule—a female Arthur in her own right. I capture myself as Aphrodite, who won the coveted golden apple from Paris, which led to him winning the love of Helen of Troy and eventually, concluded in the onset of the devastating Trojan War.”
