We‘re so excited to share the cover of Alise Maries‘ upcoming tome The Beauty Witch’s Secrets: Recipes and Rituals For The Modern Goddess!
Umm, she’s pretty glam right?
Here’s a lovely interview we did with her about her column, her new book, and her general unearthly glamorousness:
So tell us about your column in Enchanted Living and on enchantedlivingmagazine.com. What is it? What’s the inspiration?
AM: The Beauty Witch column is a monthly guide to working with the lunar and planetary energies to enhance and elevate your beauty from the inside out. Think of it as drawing down the starlight into your body! It spotlights each new and full moon, astrological aspects, and witchy holidays with potions you can concoct at home to stay strong and confident in your unique beauty, so you can better handle whatever life brings! It’s so important to keep returning to the body, your innate sensuality, the rituals of beauty…it’s pure power. And pure pleasure.
My quarterly features in the print issues focus on seasonal beauty needs, and are inspired by the theme of each issue. I have such a great time working on all of it!
How did you come to be a beauty witch?
AM: I started concocting potions over thirty-five years ago, when I realized how damaging most commercial products are. Back then you could barely find anything natural or organic, and if you could, it wasn’t particularly effective. I also started getting into brews and what I call “beauty cocktails” to support my skin, hair, and nails from the inside. I was already aligned with herbalism, magick, and ritual, so I figured, why not apply that knowledge to topical beauty potions also? And it’s so much fun! Everything smells and feels so sensual – it reminds you to stop spinning, and take care of yourself. And everything works, so when you see your skin glowing, your hair shining, and you feel energized, it really gives your confidence a shimmy! It’s empowering to know that you can infuse magic into every cell of your being.
What do witches mean to you?
A witch, to me, is wisdom. A witch is attuned to nature in all her forms with great respect, knowing how to listen, communicate, and give back. She (or he) embodies not only personal power, but the awareness of how to use it wisely. Intention is not enough—you must be willing to fully support your wishes by taking action on the physical plane. A witch does not seek to control the forces of nature, but rather to harmonize with them.
Beauty witchcraft is a very benevolent form of practical magick. Its only design is to build inner strength which then extends outward to the physical.
Can you tell us about your book?
Yes! It’s called The Beauty Witch’s Secrets: Recipes and Rituals For The Modern Goddess (Llewellyn, April 2022). I can tell you that it is a gorgeous resource for your shelf—but better yet for your coffee table!—that you will go to time and time again for potions and rituals that truly enhance your life. It’s filled with secrets I’ve longed to share, wrapped up in pure goddess glamour. I’d love to see it passed down through generations! It’s so important to help build confidence and knowledge from a young age.
What advice do you have for our readers?
I would say this: Always know that true magic lies within you. You have a unique gift to bring to the world, and a unique beauty. Beauty is not vain—it is about loving yourself, and really understanding that you are worth caring for: you are worth the time, and the effort. When you nurture and adorn yourself, you step into your full power, and from there your confidence soars! You can better help those around you, and do the work you are meant to in this life. And a little glamour makes everything so much more fun!
